Walk to school

(KumKum 17-18 April 2010)
The Union of Concerned Scientists, a group of over two thousand scientists, has concluded that global warming is beyond dispute, and already changing our climate. The last 30 years have seen the warmest surface temperatures in recorded history, and the past several years have been among the warmest on record.

Global warming, so how hot will it get, how soon and what effect?

(from National Geographic news) John Harte, an ecosystem sciences professor at the University of California, Berkeley, is already seeing possible future outcomes of global warming.

For 15 years, he has artificially heated sections of a Rocky Mountain meadow by about 3.6°F (2°C) to study the projected effects of global warming.

Harte has documented dramatic changes in the meadow's plant community. Sagebrush, though at the local altitude limit of its natural range, is replacing alpine flowers.

More tellingly, soils in test plots have lost about 20 percent of their natural carbon. This effect, if widespread, could dramatically increase Earth's atmospheric CO2 levels far above even conventional worst-case models.

Global warming can be slowed, and stopped, with practical actions that yield a cleaner, healthier atmosphere. We can contribute to this global cause with personal actions to slow down and eventually reverse global warming trough everyday awareness of our enerfy use.

The question is: will we act soon enough?

As a mother of three children, I think we need start teaching our children how to save our planet.

What better way to do it ?
For me, I teach my children to go to school by walking.

This relatively simple idea has many benefits:more walker, less cars, less traffic, less pollution, less trafic accidents, less CO2 emissions, less car related pollution overall.

Walk to school that can help us teach our children about save planet earth, nature more than "green".

Our individual efforts are especially significant in my city like Jakarta, where individuals release so many of carbon dioxide per person every year.

The goal is to bring global warming unfer control by curtailing the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping "freenhouse" gases into the atmosphere.

We can help immediately by becoming more energy efficient. Reducing our use of oil, gasoline and coal also sets an example for others to follow.

With walk to school, the kids to be inspired to do anything what they can do.
